Become a Foster Pet Parent

Fostering a dog is a profound commitment, but it’s also one of the most rewarding ways to support our rescue mission. By providing foster care for dogs, you’ll be the first loving home a dog experiences after leaving a shelter. This role comes with challenges, such as unexpected health issues or behavioral quirks, but also immense joy as you help these dogs transition to their forever homes.

What to Expect as a Foster Parent

Welcoming a foster dog into your home may come with surprises. Some may arrive with kennel cough, worms, or signs of stress and anxiety. Others might have boundless energy. These initial challenges are part of the foster experience, and while some issues are resolved quickly, our team is here to support you. If a situation arises that we cannot fix, we’ll work to find another solution as swiftly as possible.

Our Foster Process

We treat the fostering process with the same care and thoroughness as our adoption process. Here’s how it works:

  • Evaluation Process: We’ll conduct a thorough evaluation to understand your environment and learn about your family dynamics. This process helps us ensure that all aspects of your fostering experience are well-prepared. Additionally, we'll coordinate with your vet to confirm that everything is in place for a smooth and successful fostering journey.
  • Preparation and Support: We’ll review the responsibilities of fostering with you and answer any questions you might have. We will also supply you with a Foster 101 booklet to help assist you with any questions you may have. Rest assured, our Foster Coordinator will be by your side throughout the process.

What We Provide

  • Supplies: We supply everything your foster dog will need, including food, a leash, a crate, pee pads, and toys.
  • Medical Care: Our partnerships with local veterinarians and our on-site staff ensure your foster dog receives all necessary medical care at no cost to you.
  • Exposure: We’ll showcase your foster dog on our website and Petfinder.com. Updates and photos will also be featured on our Facebook page and your foster can visit our adoption center open Wednesdays and Sundays to help your foster dog find their forever family.
  • Adoption Opportunities: We host adoption events every weekend and offer meet-and-greets during the week at our office. We can also help set up private appointments once pre-approval is completed. These events give potential adopters the chance to meet your foster dog and hopefully take it home for good.

Your Role as a Foster Parent

  • Transportation: You will be responsible for taking your foster dog to and from our adoption events and meet-and-greets. However, we also have a team of experienced fosters who can step in to assist with transportation when needed.
  • Updates: Please share charming photos and descriptions of your foster dog with us to help us find the right adopter.
  • Love and Care: Provide your foster dog with all the love and attention it needs to thrive and prepare for its forever home.

If you’re ready to become a crucial part of our rescue team and make a difference in a dog’s life, please complete our foster application.
